3. Games

There are several games that can be played on GameGround server: Boggle, Go, Galaxy, Gomoku, Set!. To start new game use "Create" button or right double click game type name on Games tree.

  • Boggle

    The goal of this game is to search for words that can be constructed from the letters of sequentially adjacent letter boxes, where "adjacent" letter boxes are those horizontally, vertically or diagonally neighboring. Words must be at least three letters long (four letters in 4-based scoring systems), may not include those starting with upper case letter, may not use the same letter box more than once per word. Words that were found by more than one player are not counted during scoring phase. For all words remaining after duplicates have been eliminated, points are awarded based on the length of the word. The winner is the player whose point total is highest.

  • Galaxy

    Once the game starts, you will be presented with the game board. Blank squares are empty space, while filled squares identify the existing systems.

    At first, each player owns one system. The system's square frame is the player color. If you move your mouse over a system, you can view additional information. On systems which have not yet been conquered by anyone, you will only see the system's name. The information includes:

    • System name
    • Owner
    • Production
    • Ships

    The name of the system is how the system is referred to in the game. Systems are named alphabetically with uppercase letters.

    Owner is the player who owns the system. If the system is conquered by another player, this will change.

    Production is the number of ships the system will produce each turn.

    Ships are the current number of ships on the system.

    The production varies from system to system, but always remains the same.

    You can easily see the system name, the owner, production, and the current number of ships on a system if you happen to be current owner of the system in the square in which the system lies. The owner is represented by the system square frame color, the name is revealed with a right click on the board.

    To send ships from one system to another, select the system you want to send ships from, next select system you want to send your ships to, next enter the number of ships in the green box in the upper right corner and press enter. Repeat this procedure until you have sent out all the ships you want. When you're done, press End Turn. When all players have played one turn, messages will appear and give you the latest news. The game will proceed like this until one of the players owns the entire galaxy.

    Round ends when all participants click "End round" button, so there is no time limit for a single game.

  • Go

    To start game of Go two players must enter the same Go game room, and both players must sit to the goban by clicking "Sit !" button. Player who created given Go game room has ability to change match settings which include:

    • Board (goban) size
    • Handicap
    • Komi
    • Main time
    • Number of byo-yomi periods
    • Length of byo-yomi period

    Go uses Japanese rules for scoring.

  • Gomoku

    Gomoku is an abstract strategy board game. Also called Gobang or Five in a Row, it is traditionally played with Go pieces (black and white stones) on a go board (19x19 intersections); however, because once placed, pieces are not moved or removed from the board, gomoku may also be played as a paper and pencil game. Black plays first, and players alternate in placing a stone of their color on an empty intersection. The winner is the first player to get an unbroken row of five stones horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

  • Set!

    Set is a real-time card game. The deck consists of 81 cards varying in four features: number (one, two, or three); symbol (diamond, squiggle, oval); shading (solid, striped, or open); and color (red, green, or purple). Each possible combination of features (e.g., a card with three striped green diamonds) appears precisely once in the deck.

    A set consists of three cards which satisfy all of these conditions:

    • They all have the same number, or they have three different numbers.
    • They all have the same symbol, or they have three different symbols.
    • They all have the same shading, or they have three different shadings.
    • They all have the same color, or they have three different colors.

    The rules of Set are summarized by: If you can sort a group of three cards into "Two of ____ and one of _____," then it is not a set.
    For example, these three cards form a set:
    One red striped diamond
    Two red solid diamonds
    Three red open diamonds
    Given any two cards from the deck, there will be one and only one other card that forms a set with them.
